When you really think about our sporting allegiance it is quite strange. Sometimes we support teams because they represent the town we come from. Sometimes we support teams because they have ideals, history or motivations that we share. Sometimes we support teams because they have players who have beliefs, nationality or ethnicity similar to our own. Whatever the reasoning, we then use these allegiance to promote sports people to warriors fighting for us and flying our own personal but united flag with other likeminded fans. Yet, our warriors must have adversaries. Our adversaries are somewhere elses warriors. So in the end sport becomes a battle. A battle that goes beyond the sports people but between their supporters. Supporters who cheer for people who dont know them or their names, troubles, worries or cares. Some end up hating other supporters, who without these allegiances may well be best of friends. but the adoption of a red jersey leads you to be the nemesis of a man in a white jersey. Outside the stadium, your cheers, tweets, screams, congratulation or condemnations have no influence. When in fact after 90 you have no choice but to except 1 of 3 emotions. Joy(win), sadness(loss) or discontent(draw). Joy to gloat at achievement that you gave no contribution to. You were just lucky enough to support the winning side...
