When you search #Panantukan (#Filipino Boxing), youll find foreigners in America & Europe teaching the art across the world. When you look for martial arts places across #Manila, youll most-certainly find Muay Thai (Thailand) or Taekwondo (Korean) venues 99/100 times, often paired with Western Boxing in gyms. Panantukan is regarded around the world as one of the most practical styles to use in a dirty street fight (#MMA practitioners dont use it because it involves illegal gouges to the eyes among other devastating moves). Hollywood has also embraced Filipino martial arts for its unique aesthetics/functionality for everything from The Bourne Series, Book of Eli, to the Spartans in 300. Perhaps people want to learn the above arts for sports and fitness rather than self-defense, but I find it sad #Filipinos dont appreciate their own #martialarts within #Philippines. And if that were the case, why does Krav Maga (Israeli) seem to be popping up all over the place? Its similar in its dirty street defense techniques, and some argue it borrowed from Filipino martial arts when they were developing the system in the last decade (some Krav Maga forums wrongfully claim Jason Bourne uses their system). We cant even agree on a common name for the martial arts here, something whichd help in its marketing. #FMA #FilipinoMartialArts #Kali #Escrima #Eskrima #Arnis #Dumog #Suntukan #Pananjakman
