Whenever I see a pair of tsinelas (flip flops), I remember my lolo and lola...Growing up in their house, I often drove Papa Inong crazy by forgetting to wear my flip flops, hes kind of OCD like that :) Though tsinelas are very pleasant, light-weight, and functional, Ive always preferred to go barefoot. Also, tsinelas was a favorite for them to drum some discipline into me and my two unruly big brothers ☺ But the thing I reflect most when I think of flip flops and my folks obsession with these unassuming footwear is my lolas stockpile of new tsinelas in all shapes and sizes. I remember asking my mom why lola collects tsinelas that she doesnt even wear. My mama said, She gives them ALL away..You never know when someone needs a pair of clean slip-shoes... I thought, what genius lola! ☺ My grandma is the most generous person I’ve ever known. I learn from her what Charles Dickens sums up in this quote: “No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.” Sometimes people leave an impact on others without even realizing it.. My grandma has taught me a lot about living a life of selflessness and charity. I hope I can be like her- strong, faithful, noble and generous woman…I love you, Mommy!
