Whenever I see slutwalk I always see the signs saying tell me I - TopicsExpress

Whenever I see slutwalk I always see the signs saying tell me I asked for it but no ones actually saying anyone asked for it, what was meant was that if you as an individual want to help reduce the risk of being raped then wearing moderate attire will help. Its the same way I got told as a young child that if I want to avoid getting abducted I shouldnt take sweets from strangers or how were told we should check the batteries in our fire alarm if we dont want to be caught off guard by a fire. I realize some people find it free and liberating aswell but really, that doesnt need attention, if you have freedom and you have liberty, well done, you live in a part of the world that isnt shit. Take pride in it but theres no need for all the negative energy that comes from a slutwalk. Some slutwalks do seem to have a lot of male hate going on, which is ridiculous for because men get raped as well, sometimes men are raped by women, so youve now turned your anti rape protest into an anti gender protest and are now fighting against equality. Male hatred in feminism annoys me however it is a topic for another day. my point being; the slutwalks I see now days seem to have no real objective, you cant protest against rape, its already illegal and can already carry a full life sentence, people already know that its bad, if someones going to commit rape a group of scantily clad women holding signs is not going to change their mind. Its like protesting against a tornado, we know its there, we know its bad, but weve already moved everyone to the basements and weve already nailed all our shit down, were doing our best to fight it and protesting about it isnt going to help much. Also they seem to do is give feminists a label that a lot of them may not even want and cause tension between genders. There is never anything specific on signs or in chants, Ive never seen signs saying please keep these areas better lit at night or please raise awareness of the fact that rape can be treated and reported anonymously they always have a rather general vague or rhetorical slur like tell me I asked for it and really, whats that going to mean to anyone? whats that going to change? Honestly, if someone can prove me wrong Id be most grateful. But if not I just wish feminists would have a real objective, ask for specific thing or even better help a far more oppressed country or do some charity raising that doesnt also cause controversy, do something cool that people will be interested in. Sorry this is so long, thank you for reading any of you wonderful people that did
