Whenever Tommy Caruthers gets brought up, inevitably it turns into “What he does works for him”, Jesse Glover quotes, and “Well he simplified and streamlined JKD”. But these things are rarely how these conversations start. They start because TC “critiques” the imaginary training methods, of some hypothetical JKD school, and then generalizes those critiques to most of the JKD community. Also because he doesn’t seem to be able to pass the tests he imposes on others. No one is saying Tommy isn’t fast, or skilled, or legitimate, but the people who inevitably come one to defend him turn the discussion in that direction. That’s not what it is about, Tommy trolls the greater JKD community all the time, and some of you guys don’t see that, that’s what this is about. @:20 seconds, can someone show me a clip of a JKD person that does what Tommy is showing here? I cant find one. Like I said in the other thread, he is taking a drill out of context, just so he can bash it (not even a JKD drill). What he shows as the correct way, is pretty much how every reputable JKD school teaches it. Then at 1:20 when he shows us the right way to choke someone. What Tommy shows is an air choke, what he advises against is a blood choke. The difference between them is this, Air chokes are harder to pull off, and take way, way longer to work than blood chokes. An air choke could take minutes, a blood choke takes seconds. Why would he teach you something that takes longer? Then my favorite “When you see these people post these clips The thing we think about right away, is this guys never fought for real because if he would have fought for real he wouldn’t be doing stupid things like that.” So what happens when we apply Tommy’s standards to his own clip? He is teaching the wrong choke, a BJJ white belt would know this. Why show the wrong way, when no one uses it? https://youtube/watch?v=_iu2qPp-kzc
