Whenever a leftist calls for more openness, you know what that means: leftists should speak their minds, and everyone else should shut up. Hence the vaunted “openness” of the current Vatican extends to anyone and everyone, and involves currying favor with mainstream opinion, but does not involve a sympathetic hearing for libertarians. Heres Tom Woods response to the recent statements of Cardinal Maradiaga, a leftist who favors more liturgical destruction (the typical parish Mass not being quite clownish enough yet, evidently), more doctrinal ambiguity, and more egalitarianism.
