Whenever outstation guests come to Ipoh, it is a common practice to take them to Ipohs fsme road for dim sum! However, parking is a problem and one has to be a real early bird to get a spot near one of the many shops there to park ones car. Another problem confronting drivers would be parking touts! I spotted more than half a dozen of them this morning! When I approached an empty lot, a tout waved me in! As if I needed his invitation! Parking is free on Sundays but tgese tout expect you to pay them at least RM1.00! (Ipohs parking fee is only 60 sen per hour!) I drove into the parking lot, parked my car, cane out, locked my car and walked away without a glance at the tout! As I moved away, he let off a string of curses in my direction! Being a non-gambling man and since I dont bet on the World Cup games, I smiled at him and walked on. It is against my principles to pay these people! The more we pay, the more areas they will cover! Many fear them harming their vehicle, but I was prepared for whatever may happen. When I came back, I had a good look at my car to see if anything evil had befallen it. Thank God, nothing could be spotted! Sometimes it is our own suspicious mind that put us into a pisition to fear these touts and drive us to pay them! If more refuses to pay and if more check their cars and make poluce reports if theur cars are damaged, then the police too must sit up and be forced by us to take action against them! The police cannot act unless they do something criminal like damaging your vehicle! If not they can only take action on them as vagrants ir beggars snd the penalty will only result in a light sentence at best and they will soon be back! Unless we are willing to sacrifice we cannit rud our city if the scourge of parking touts! Malaysuabs are like heavy sleepers when it comes to action for change! They hope that by going into a deep sleep the problems will disappear when they awake. Sorry pals, problems are real and not bad dreams! They dont go away unless you act while bring awake! You cannot hope for Perkasa or Imas to dissapear, they wont! Ut is also true for the lesser evil, our parking touts! Enjoy your dim sum!
