Where are we going Mommy? Trey asked. Were going to go see Nani - TopicsExpress

Where are we going Mommy? Trey asked. Were going to go see Nani and Paw Paw for a little while, sweetie. I replied. Why cant Daddy go with us? Well be home in a couple of days, but he has to stay close to work so he can help people get the stuff they need after the storm. Oh, well I hope its soon. was his reply. This was the conversation I had 9 years ago with my then 5-year-old son, 2 days before the day that changed our lives forever. His brother and sister were 3 and 1 and napping happily as I packed the trunk of our Ford Taurus, then unpacked it, then repacked it to make sure we had the right things we needed for a couple of days. (Needless to say bowling balls werent going to be needed for awhile so Im really glad I unpacked those.) I stopped by Lowes early that morning to say good-bye to David and the kids hugged and kissed him. Then I doubled back to return 15 library books because they would have been late. Funny...the small things you think about. We didnt make it back to the place we called home. Waiting to find out if our family was ok, if David was ok and putting on a brave face when the kids would ask, When are we going to see, Daddy? I wouldnt change the fact that we made it to Colorado but I might of changed the way in which it happened. I like to think that it made us stronger in some way. I miss my family back south. We are homesick from time-to-time (seeing a big bass in a pond or watching our favorite saltwater fishing show just doesnt quite satisfy the feeling of really fishing and triggers memories that we arent close to home anymore). We will be visiting soon...thank goodness so we have that to look forward too. Katrina, you effected a lot of people that day....I hope and pray everyone has found peace.
