Where do you find the words to thank someone for making your dreams become a reality? I tried to Google it. None of the results would suffice. You all have made a girls wildest dreams come true. What words are of equal value to that? I surely dont believe there is an equivalent. All she can do is be honest, genuine, loving, and vulnerable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for telling me you didnt think I could do it. Thank you for rejecting me. Thank you for accepting me. Thank you for giving me your unwanted opinion. Thank you for laughing at me when I chose my post-secondary education. Thank you for laughing at me when I chose my post-graduate education. Thank you for laughing at and with me. Thank you for losing your temper on me. Thank you for making me lose my temper and some of my hair. Thank for you for being patient with me. Thank you for telling me I talk too much, too loud, and too often. Thank you for making me cry. Thank you for making me smile. Regardless of our interactions with one another, we take a lesson away from each encounter that will help shape our future - most likely when youre least expecting it. Thank you for caring about me. Thank you for taking me on the craziest, 2.5 month long ride of my life. I never even imagined that within six days a group of people would come together to support not only myself, but the future of art and psychotherapy. Within six days change was made. Along with the monetary goal being met and exceeded, we were able to spread the word about Expressive Arts Therapy to a HUGE range of people! It is so important that we keep talking about alternative forms of dealing with our everyday struggles and achievements. Its okay to need some help. With the funds raised, so far I have purchased pastels, paints, brushes, canvas, modeling clay, and much more. In November, Brock University Students Union also donated a whole whack of paint brushes and cans of paints - I will forever be grateful. APEXAT has also met with the website and brand developer. We have brainstormed some awesome ideas and I cant wait to see our doodles come to life. I promise, there is much more to come. I hold the Arts so close to my heart and when I would receive notifications about the project it reminded me that not only was I being supported, so were the Arts. Together we made a difference. Together we will continue to make a difference. The Arts have and will always be there for us. Now, its our turn to be there for the Arts. Be the change that you wish to see in the world.- Mahatma Gandhi Growing up, I was always THAT kid; the one who consistently received Alana talks too much in class on my report cards. By the time Grade 8 rolled around, my educators opinions of me hadnt changed, as my teacher told me I would never get into University, and should only take Applied/College courses in high-school - he assured me I wouldnt survive the next 4 years otherwise. Not shockingly, this didnt sit well with me. Heres the first thing you should know about me: never tell me that I CANT do something because, I will immediately take action. I will prove you wrong. Throughout high school, my interest was focused on the Arts, Social studies, and Auto...I needed to get my hands dirty and experience the content that was being taught. At the time, this was not a form of learning in my education system. In a place full of facilitated learning, I felt as if I were being held back from gaining knowledge. For some odd reason, the Arts are not seen to be as important as Math, Science, Geography, etc. and that made me feel powerless. If it werent for the Arts, I strongly believe many of us wouldnt be able to find happiness. The Arts provide: creativity, imagination, exploration, confidence, real life imagery, and so much more. Throughout my studio work and training at ISIS Canada, my practicum at Hospice Toronto, and my Kick Starter project I have been able to find value in myself. I now know how much I am worth. I had been searching for the proper form of confidence and I have finally found it. I can view myself as a professional and I believe that I can be taken seriously in my line of work. Since Ive decided to be infinite, there is no ending and there is no fear. - Broods Thank you for challenging me. Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for allowing me to be me.
