Where does one draw the line when it comes to the amount of animals you own? A lot of people will say it does not matter how many animals you have as long as they have food and water – is this really enough? What about shelter, clean living environment, love and medical attention. Last week the Special Projects Unit inspected an animal / scrap hoarder in Mahikeng. The living conditions of the animals were extremely dirty. The only form of shelter was inside the house – the floor was covered in faeces and a putrid urine smell was hanging in the air. The dogs had various medical ailments. A warning was issued to the owner of the animals to clean up the animals living environment, seek veterinary treatment and reduce the number of animals. A follow-up inspection was conducted and the owner seemed to have complied with our requests, for now. We will continue to monitor and ensure compliance.
