Where is the dividing line between private affairs and public - TopicsExpress

Where is the dividing line between private affairs and public interest? For simple employees like me, our every public and private moves are closely monitored, apparently because we are paid from public funds. I recently got calls from journalists at 6 30 am informing me that sanctions were being envisaged against me at work because I joined the MSM to help serve the people of Mauritius during my private time, free of charge. I also looove dancing. But I could not have a private sega party at home, WITH MY HUSBAND, because I had to attend to a 24 hr deadline to explain my party membership. I also could not attend to my religious prayers at home because I was given a last minute notice to stand by for a meeting at work in that connection. During my vacation leave, dedicated to private family life, I was requested by political nominees of the PM to provide explanations regarding use of my private time. It seems that I am not free to use my private time as I please although I am a simple citizen. All I can say is if we encourage invasion of the privacy of others, we cannot be surprised when our own private affairs are considered to be a matter of public interest, especially when we hold a high public office. We may hold different political opinions, but if we expect others to respect ours, we should first learn to respect theirs. This is what building of a rainbow nation is all about. And when we are elected to work to further the interest of the public, this commitment should prime over any private interests.
