Whether youre voting YES or NO on November 4th concerning the school levy, YOU MUST SHOW UP TO THE POLLS for your vote to count. You cant just like this status!!! I will be at mine voting YES!! Whos with me? xoxotara I know Im just one person here, but I just sent this to the editor of the HH courier. I love that this levy has been talked about so much this year! Heres my letter to the editor: November 4th is a very important day for my son. He is a 5th grade student in the huber heights school district. I too attended HHCS my entire life. My 5th grade year was probably the most impacting year of all. Camp Kern!! This 3 day field trip was the first time I stepped out of my comfort zone of the security of my parents and my own bed, and i trusted my life with teenage high school counselors and my peers!! This trip has imprinted lifelong memories and character that I still use today. On the ballot this November, is 5 year 6.95 million levy for school operating expenses. The money generated my passage of this levy is desperately needed for the day-to-day operations of our school district. After multiple years of failed levies and over $14 MILLION dollars in reductions, the Huber heights school district is unable to provide the programs, materials, and services my child needs. My sons last art class was in the 2nd grade! It was only one quarter out of the year! And my son will not be creating the same memories as his mama at Camp Kern, bc that too has been taken away! No field trips, no art classes, and there are God gifted talented kids that cant afford to play sports bc the athletic participation fee is outrageous! With the passage of this levy the Board of Education has committed to bring back 2.5 million dollars in programs, services, and STAFF that will benefit our children, your children, my child. That equates to 14 teachers, 3paraprofessionals, 3custodians, instructional supplies and materials, technology, 2 school resource officers, an attendance officer, maintain AFJROTC, reduce the athletic participation fee from $428 to $276 and reduce the family cap from $1200 to $800. For many families spending $20 more a month is worth it as long as the fees are reduced. As a parent, I believe my child deserves a quality education and Im hoping you will join me on November 4th and vote YES for our schools. Thank you, Tara Bannorra
