Which Fanbase makes the most noise?! Celebrity fanbases are the things that help us to identify with our favourite celebs and idols. Without them we’d be at a loss for who to follow and just how to do it. Each icon has their own cult following. And we’re about to break down who has the biggest, and why their fans are the most impactful. Beyonce’s “Bey-Hive” are a force to be reckoned with after they helped her to sell out two back-to-back world tours! This enabled her to gross over $160 million! And after the surprise release of her self - entitled album in late 2013, it readied the world for a Beyonce takeover in 2014. And just when the Bey-Hives thought it couldn’t get any better, she embarked on the “On The Run” tour, with hubby Jay –Z. The reason that Beyonce’s fanbase may be regarded as one of the most prominent and impactful is because of the way that she is constantly received all around the world and upheld on a pedestal of music royalty by her fans who seem to cover the majority of demographics who all have one thing in common. They idolize Mrs Carter. It also doest hurt that she’s married to the biggest rapper in the world, and a lot of his fans also have decided to carve out a little space in their hearts for the former Destiny’s Child singer. You can say what you like about her, but her fans will definitely have a sharp reply! Katy Perry’s “Katy Cats” are known to be among some of the most fierce fan bases out there. With a strong online and social media presence, they helped Katy to win countless awards in some of the toughest categories! The most recent example comes as she won the VMA for best Female Video. And as the VMA’s are fan voted awards, I think we all know who came out in full force to ensure that Ms Perry took home some silverware. The Katy Cats are most notably active on Twitter, and often have their “differences” with another Fanbase in an attempt to have their artists back in her alleged on going feud with Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift and her ‘Swifties’ also make a lot of noise online. Although their idol may be the poster girl for the sweet “girl next door” who writes a good love song, her fans on the other hand can be fierce when need be. And that goes for when defending Taylor online, or when it comes to rallying the troops to ensure her some award silverware or to clinch chart positions! Justin Biebers Beliebers! Although the hysteria around these particular characters may have died down over the years (this may be attributed to Justin’s latest shenanigans and run ins with the law) nevertheless they are still a huge force to be reckoned with. They can be relied on to ensure a sold our world tour, to platinum album sales and millions of YouTube views for the boy wonder. Love or hate the kid? … well it doesn’t matter, because he already has a few million teenage girls screaming his name with his face on their T shirts! Whatever it is about the Biebs, they believe it. Miley Cyrus’ and her Smilers managed to rally all of the rebels and teens going through the ‘misunderstood’ phase to come together and become the force that are the Smilers! With tongues wagging and cuddly bears in inappropriate places, this fanbase has homes all over the world. These guys and girls support Miley in everything she does! From twerking to (substance inspired) ‘Dirty Hippie’ arts and crafts (we know… LOL) And her batch of loyal fans made sure she was able to tour the world from February 2014 to October 2014! #Impressive Its difficult to say why fans align themselves with particular stars, some may just like their music, or think that their artist is cute, but for others it can go much deeper. Belonging to a fanbase can often reward that individual with a sense of identity and belonging. Some fanbases make sure that they exceed the usual twitter hype and online warfare. But instead are destined to become something greater. Lady Gaga and her ‘Little Monsters’ are constantly praised for how their collective has become more so a network and world wide online community, as opposed to just a fanbase. When an artists core group of fans come together in a very specific way such as the “Little Monsters” they create real relationships and form genuine bonds; all with one thing in common that leads to a gateway of similarities. The impact that these fans have is almost immeasurable. Both on their artists of choice and in the music industry itself. Financially - As we all know, one of the key upsides to having a core fanbase is that is will primarily guarantee the artist a nice rainy day fund, as fans will usually eat up anything that their favourite star produces. Whether it be a new album, new line of perfume or T shirt, or even a joint business venture. (We’re all aware of a certain brand of headphones that kinda took the world by storm) Once an artist has dedicated fans, they’re always guaranteed to have money in their pocket. Individually - As well as the fans being able to change the artists life and essentially give them purpose by living their dreams. The fans have to get something out of it as well. There have been countless occasions that we hear fans speak on their favourite artists, saying that this song may have gotten them through Uni, or a bad break up, or was their favourite song to party to in 2012 so the nostalgia is just inescapable. The true impact of a fanbase can’t just be measured by numbers or statistics as the fundamentals of the relationship between artist and fan is because of a connection. Globally - Finally and this one may be the most impactful of them all. When there’s a smash hit, and we’re talking worldwide SMASH hit e.g ‘Happy’ by Pharell. It can affect the world through its ripples in pop culture. In 2013 when Macklemore and Ryan Lewis released ‘Same Love’, it gave a platform to thousands of young people who felt as though the were alienated from their community, but when seeing a movement of such support for a great cause, both online and in the industry, the impact of their growing fanbase couldn’t be ignored. Now by no means are we saying that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are responsible for gay rights, but the success of their song did help to perpetuate the message among a younger audience and essentially convey a very good message of equality from a neutral stand - point.
