Which Harvest? The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Luke 10:2 Many missionary conferences have been conducted under this banner. Surely there is a harvest and the workers are few. Jesus always speaks truth. But truth has many layers. My concern is that churches pressure the ill-equipped to go to the front lines. Often missionaries are shamed into action. They hear the call for workers, and either guilt or an emotional plea prompts them to go to the altar. Many missionaries wipe out as a result because they didnt take the time to know themselves and their vulnerabilities before volunteering for service. Their habits and obsessions still lay buried deep within. Simply put, they did not grow up under Gods parental care before leaving to live life on the edge. The harvest must begin within! There are multitudes of internal thoughts and feelings to be held up against the truth of Scripture. There are dead branches to be pruned. There are roots that need the nourishing rains of Gods Spirit. Maturity is not gained overnight. Just as an adolescent spends years trying out his wings under careful supervision, so our faith needs time to mature under the watchful care of Abba. May we not volunteer for too much, too soon. Those who embark in internal harvesting are few. May we not be fainthearted. Instead lets be diligent to allow God to transform us before he uses us to transform the world. We cannot give away what we do not first possess. FATHER, THERE ARE THINGS INSIDE THAT NEED YOUR TOUCH. REFORM ME. I TRUST YOU WITH CHILDLIKE TRUST, BUT DONT LET MY SERVICE BE CHILDISH. MATURE ME TO FEAST ON THE MEAT OF YOUR WORD. AMEN.
