While Brazil is generally a neutral fans delight, this world cup - TopicsExpress

While Brazil is generally a neutral fans delight, this world cup has been anything but that. Very dirty, scrappy football played by the brazilians. The overall quality of play and the air surrounding the team has been absolutely ordinary. Refs help today, refs help vs chile and refs help vs croatia. Fred or Fernandinho would not be discussed as contenders for even the Brazilian school boy XI about 10 years back. Fernandinho should have been sent off twice atleast in the very first half itself. Julio cesar should have been sent off for the penalty. Two legs on a clear chance? A red any day of the week. But more apalling was the refrees constant stoppages for the innumerable dives. Mainly Brazilians, but Columbians werent innocent either. Please no more spanish refrees! They are too used to horrible and appallingly soft defending in the la liga. What could have been end to end stuff was instead turned into- Columbia attacking and losing the ball in the Brazilian half, where the brazilians try some sort of a sorry version of a quick counter attack, before losing the ball and tripping on grass. The David Luiz freekick was off a dive too. The only brazilians who deserve to be commended are the ever excellent thiago silva and the man who still carries the brazilian heart, David Luiz. Less said about neymar, the better. Coming to Columbia, their way of playing this world cup has been everything that Brazilian football once stood for. James Rodriguez was mighty impressive, taking tons of knocks by the Brazilian defenders which somehow seemed to pass by the refrees eyes. Cuadrado was not as effective here as he was in previous matches. If only he were, we could have seen a completely different match. Columbia played a brand of football, brazil in its current state cant dream of. Were the ref not afraid of the crowds wrath and/or had not been spanish, Columbia could have walked away with an easy win. On the same note, If Falcao were present, Columbia could even have had a very real chance of winning the world cup. Columbia to me will be the highlight of this world cup. Peace out.
