While [Claudia Garcia-Rojas] original intention [with the #HowMediaWritesWOC hashtag] may have been to address the numerous ways that media either fails to report violence against women of color or distorts women of color who have experienced violence, the conversation quickly grew to include the numerous ways that media — particularly mainstream media — treats women of color differently than white women.
