While I like to dispel a jaundiced-science-eye with facts, I do not necessarily close the door on conspiracy. Its just that I see too many people jump to cause and effect when only guilty by association is at play. Worse yet, I see people bite into headlines rather than delving into the story. For instance, in the past, would you stop reading here or would you continue to keep reading? Here is the crux of this conspiracy (the article does a good job): (Dr.) Harper changed her mind when the vaccine makers started lobbying state legislatures to require schoolkids to get vaccinated. Ninety-five percent of women who are infected with HPV never, ever get cervical cancer, she says. It seemed very odd to be mandating something for which 95 percent of infections never amount to anything. I agree that maybe it should not be mandated as other more universally lethal disease vaccines should, but her other premise is more statistically off base. Part of the vaccine is to curb the need for abnormal Pap follow-ups with colposcopies, LEEPs & surgical cones and lasers which cost plenty money, time and angst and of course the occasional adverse surgical outcome. Additionally, because the cervical cancer rates in the USA are low (in 3rd world nations it is the number ONE cancer killer of women) it is difficult to get the data so quickly to show cancer prevention. But that would be like saying using SEAT BELTS CAUSE DEATHS! How many car trips do we use seat belts without any need for them? How few accidents where the seat belt has been show to accidentally strangle a person? How often can we definitively & unequivocally say that seat belts saved a life, common sense aside? (by the way, I am pro-seat belt) My take, as Ive done with my son and daughter, keep vaccinating for HPV. If some SCIENCE comes up to review, please let me know & Ill try my best to review it.
