While I never have clients ask this question, a lot of interns - TopicsExpress

While I never have clients ask this question, a lot of interns will ask this question of me in clinical supervision: What is your theoretical orientation? Which basically means whats your approach w/clients? My answer: Im humanistic to the core which means I value and respect the client as a human being first and foremost. And then I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to help clients see how their thoughts impact their moods and behaviors. I will also use Mindfulness, Emotional Intelligence, and whatever else I can to support the client through their change process. And I love using a strengths-based approach. Why not use the clients strengths to help w/change?! I also enjoy using metaphors...especially sports ones. And as Ive mentioned before, I also like using music, movies, and Empty Chair technique, and something called Integrative Therapy that one of my colleagues from Chico taught me. One of the many things I love about being a therapist is that I can use my creativity to help clients overcome obstacles and problem solve. And I love being a Clinical Supervisor because I can teach the next generation of therapists.
