While I was at a demonstration yesterday, to support coal miners - TopicsExpress

While I was at a demonstration yesterday, to support coal miners in the heart of coal country Kentucky, a young lady approached me, and told us her heart-breaking story. She said that she and her father were so desperate to save their income stream and way of life, that theyd chained themselves to some digging equipment, to keep their strip mine from being closed due to EPA regulations. Both her and her father were arrested(shes been arrested 4 times in the same type of activism), and that this single mines closing had cost that county 1,500 jobs alone. Furthermore, their electric bill had spiked $300 a month after the series of closures. Presently she was involved in a court battle to put solar power on a hill nearby, but sadly, I cant see that plan going forward either in that county, as theres too many big toes it would step on. Coal country Appalachia is literally in survival mode. Washington D.C. hates coal, and hates Appalachian coal-mining communities. I asked her if instead of needlessly replacing Kentuckys own coal with another resource, coal country might do better by replacing Washington D.C.... She laughed and said, I wish wed thought of that years ago.... The cost of Union is far, far too high. #Secede
