While being in Germany, I learned lots about World War II. One of the shocking things to me was learning about Hitlers early motivations. As evil as his actions were, what shocked me was that the initial reasons for his political movement were completely reasonable. They were not lets kill millions of people. Instead, they were more along the lines of we must free hard working Germans from the oppression of unjust and corrupt people. It reminded me of two things. First, that our US foreign policy is evil, even if initially it had good reasons. We bomb & invade countries all over the world, killing thousands. The US politicians explain to us that our enemies hate us for our freedom. What an absurd statement! And more importantly it reminded me that my own good intentions can easily result in evil if I am not careful. I may not kill millions of people, but it does not mean that my own ego wont lead to other evils.
