While many schools were disappointed by the sharp fall in their GCSE English results this year, Eaton Bank Academy bucked the trend by delivering 79% A*-C in the subject, against a national average of 62%. Maths results were also a full 10% above average. In English literature 90% of students achieved A*-C grades, while in history A* and A grades made up over half of the overall results, with 84% of students securing A*-C. In the newly reformed, and tougher, geography GCSE a third of all grades were in the top range A*-B and the overall pass rate was higher than last year. In science 78% of students secured two or more good passes at GCSE. The proportion of Eaton Bank Academy year 11 students achieving A*-C Grades in maths, English and at least three other subjects was 69%. This was 10% above the national average* and follows an equally strong set of results in 2013. Headteacher, Ann Webb, who was present to congratulate the young people as they collected their results, said this: “We were very confident that our students would secure another excellent set of results. Other subjects producing exceptionally strong performances included economics, with 100% A*-C, statistics, with 98%, art and design with 97% of which a full 2/3rds were A*-B grades, German with 95% and resistant materials with 91%. Across all three subjects in the humanities faculty; history, geography and religious studies, 60% of all grades were in the top range A*-B.
