While my thoughts go out to the families involved in this tragic - TopicsExpress

While my thoughts go out to the families involved in this tragic accident and while I agree that something does need to be done I have to admit I am shocked at some of the comments made about the driver that are hovering around on the internet at the moment. Surely the police need to finish their investigation before people call for a public hanging. I think some of the suggestions made here are impractical in the long term. For example lowering the speed limit to 10 mph would cause huge disruption and increase the density of car traffic right along leyfield road. Given that there are over 7 schools that are on the route the traffic could potentially back up all the way into west derby village and cause increased traffic on the surrounding roads which in my opinion could be potentially even more dangerous and I dont think this is something the council would consider. My suggestion would be to increase road safety awareness education in all the schools, put maybe a few more lollipop men/women on the route and see if there is any application for the construction of a small subway on the route? Also maybe there should be CCTV systems monitoring the area in particular the ziz zags which I have seen far too many drivers park on. I live literally one minute walk from where the accident happened and I have to say I have seen children run out onto the road, parents not keep control of their children and also families crossing leyfield road improperly. At the same time I have also seen drivers go too fast down that road, absolutely awful parking and manoeuvres being performed which should not be performed in close proximities of other cars, blind spots and children. The issue here could be more wider, for example should we have all these cars going into the area anyway for dropping off/picking up of kids? Should we follow the American example and have a school bus system?
