While preserving her privacy, I would like to pass on these comments from a very dear friend in Paris whom Id e-mailed in the wake of the horrific anti-Semitic demonstrations in the city. Her father was shot by Franco, her father-in-law died in Buchenwald, her mother in law survived the camps, she was brought up by an ex-International Brigader. She knows where the danger lies. My eyes are full of tears as I re-read what she says about her city. Thank you Stephen for your thought. Yes. They are back. With different skin colour and different nationalities but always the same deep rooted hatred. Its dreadful. Ive been fearing this kind of thing for months. Im totally at a loss. Very few people can understand that I suffer for both Israel and Palestine because Ive been there twice for some time and had a chance to see how it feels to be one or the other. Damn, I studied both languages hoping there was a way out of that mess, and now the mess is in Paris, practically at my doorstep. Im horribly sad and a bit desperate. (This is particularly for Kate, Julie, Leyla, Sioned-Mair and others with their heads screwed on tight and their hearts in the right place.)
