While rearranging things before renovations a few years ago, an unusual edition of Edwin Abbott Abbotts Flatland was almost destroyed before we discovered that it is actually a rare 1980 limited edition of 275 numbered copies, each signed by Ray Bradbury (who wrote the introduction). The books design reflects the two-dimensional world of the story, with 56 accordion-fold panels with text on both sides unfolding to 33 feet, die-cut illustrations based on the authors designs, aluminum covers, and a hinged, clasped aluminum container. The book is now housed in our Special Collections.
