While reviewing, the recent Lassen County Historical Society, I - TopicsExpress

While reviewing, the recent Lassen County Historical Society, I became more than slightly annoyed what was written about my g.g. grandmother Franceska Murrer Neuhaus and the St. Francis Hotel. Don’t even get me started about the articles one entitled the Susanville Pioneer Cemetery, which no cemetery exist by that name, or that of Merrill Fairfield. First to correct the record, her name is Franceska not Francheska and starting in 1906 she began investing in commercial properties in Susanville, When the Willow Creek ranch was sold in 1912 to her son, Edward Murrer, she used the proceeds to build the St. Francis Hotel, her husband Ben, had nothing to do with it, they had separate bank accounts. Her son, Bill and wife Flora, operated it when it opened in 1914, not 1918. Franceska moved into the hotel in 1916, after the death of her husband, and in 1917, there was a nasty guardianship hearing concerning her, with everyone wanting to gain control of the hotel and other assets, but that is another story. Pictured is Franceska in front of the hotel in 1916, and a picture of the original hotel.
