While running around the woods of Upper Saddle River today I came across a family of deer while forging a large hill. Startled by the crunching leaves below my sneakers, an instinctive mama deer and her two babies bolted- rightfully so. They darted about 15 feet, but the mama paused and looked back at me. For no good reason, while running up the steep embankment, something within told me to try to communicate with the deer... So I took one hand and put it to my butt and waved at the deer, as if it was my fluffy white tail. The mamas ears immediately perked and all three deer relaxed and resumed grazing peacefully. Noisily I made my way entirely up the leafy embankment, crunching leaves the whole way - all the while the deer did not budge or question my motives... weird.
