While the numbers in this calculation may be off by a couple million, I think this article does a great job at highlighting the immense burden placed on taxpayers who choose to live in jurisdictions with higher-than-average state and local income tax rates. It may not have effected Tankas end decision, but there are a lot of other people who would have chosen Tampa in his position, given the estimated $12MM in tax savings that would go along with living in Florida as opposed to New York.
