While their anti-LGBTQ discrimination is an issue, the Salvation Army has helped and continues to help the poor, the hungry and the desperate across the country in very substantial numbers. The work that they do for the most destitute among us, in the coldest of winters and in the hardest of circumstances is unmatched in scale by any other organization. There has also been some push for change from within, but change comes slowly to large and very old organizations like this one. I do not support the Salvation Armys stance on LGBTQ issues, but I do support their work in the community, and I will continue to do so. I wouldnt deny a homeless person shelter and soup because of a slight against me, any more than I would ask people to stop donating blood because CBS discriminates against LGBTQ donors for fear of scaring the ignorant and the uneducated. Please help to fill those red kettles this year.
