While this theory is very sound, I cannot imagine too many older people having the means or the desire to pay $3,000.00 (a very high figure) to accomplish this. Since often many thousands of dollars are used to keep persons alive at the end of life (sometimes in violation of their wishes), I think that incorporating appointment of a heatlh care fiduciary into the hospice process would be a cost effective first step. It is truly sad that our federal government has cut hospice funding by no longer failure to thrive to stand alone as a criteria for hospice admission.
