Whilst this vid comparing image from gh4/ epic & raw 5d is a good idea it’s examples are a bit misleading. As I wrote in my comment there by comparing the image whilst cropped in, with the cameras being so different, is a little unfair. The Epic is an amazing camera, it certainly is not a soft camera! I have shot a dozen projects on it and it remains one of my favourite 4K images! it just has no in camera sharpening as in camera sharpening is the devil and anyway its a raw only camera so you do it yourself in post. There are a few who comment the back focus also may be off on the Epic. Quite possibly. it certainly looks softer than I have ever seen and its very easy to make mistakes like this. Thats why I try to avoid comparing cameras in reviews as I will mostly like make a silly mistake and then its misleading! That being said downloading the original clips the focus is actually on the trees on the epic shot, or appears to be, not the house. The house is the part blown up though. Comparing the HD from the GH3 and GH4 which have the same picture settings would be a fair test but anything else is incredibly inaccurate and must not be taken at face value like this. The GH4 looks amazing for the money and mine finally arrives tomorrow (HOORAY!) but sharpening set to ZERO is not sharpening off! It can go to -5 I believe which would have been a slightly better comparison. Whether that actually is sharpening fully off i dont know. My C300 for example when i set it to the lowest sharpening number, whatever that is, it is still sharper than when I actually turn sharpening to the OFF mode. Japanese companies love sharp images by default. We just have to turn it all off. Especially on cameras, like Canons and the GH3, where it shows the image issues up. I expect it will be the same with the GH4. I always recommend turning sharpening fully off if you can. The thing is to compare like for like is almost impossible due to the variables, which are huge! Its a nice test but one which will mislead many into saying the image from the GH4 is better. It isnt, its just sharper here. Let us not forget what the Epic offers compared to the GH4 too...there is a reason it costs that much more!! That being said the GH4 from what little i have seen really impresses and shows once again that each generation Panasonic really are making big improvements with the GH series. I just wish the competition would do the same...oh and I wish Panasonic Pro division would see what their consumer division is doing too! https://t.co/XKOrmKRxwY
