Whipped Laundry Soap (Recipe adapted from Whipped Laundry Concentrate) LOVE recipes!! Come FOLLOW ME! I am always posting awesome stuff on my timeline! You can find me at facebook/jennifer.mondebello 1 Fels Naptha Bar * 1 Cup 20 Mule Team Borax * 1 Cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda * (not Baking Soda) 4 Cups of hot water 2 Mason Canning Jars with lids (Oster Blender with the screw on blade) (Follow directions carefully, adding ingredients at the wrong time will result in a grainy textured detergent that will not dissolve well in your washer) Step 1: Put 4 Cups hot water in a large heavy saucepan over high heat. While that is heating, mix the borax and washing soda together in a bowl, mixing well, set aside. Step 2: Grate the Fels Naptha Bar. This is the hardest part in my opinion. I opted to use my smallest Ninja processor bowl. Cuts 15 minutes out of the process and grinds it smaller so it melts faster. Step 3: Add the grated soap to the water in the saucepan, stirring almost constantly. Reduce the heat to medium, it will take approximately 10 – 15 minutes for the Fels Naptha to completely dissolve. (closer to 10 if you use the processor) If it takes longer, your heat wasn’t up high enough. It should be a rolling, simmering boil where you must stir constantly but it does not foam heavily or seem to “creep up” the saucepan. Step 4: Once the Fels Naptha has completely melted, remove the pan from the heat and add in the Borax and the Washing Soda, stirring constantly until the powders are completely dissolved. Should take 3 – 5 minutes. Do not under-stir or your soap texture will be very grainy rather than smooth. (You can feel the “graininess” on the bottom of the pan, once you can’t feel it, it’s fully incorporated) Step 5: Pour the liquid equally into (2) 1 quart Mason jars. Step 6: Add just enough water to bring the contents up to the “shoulders” or rounded part of the jar, leaving approximately 1 ½” of headspace. Step 7: Put the lid on the jars and turn them UPSIDE DOWN and let them sit a few hours (about 4 – 5 hours). The reason for this is that the soap is going to separate into layers while it’s resting and occasionally will form crystals on the bottom. Rather than waste these trying to scrap them off, in the next step we’re going to incorporate them easily. You do not want to leave it overnight as it would have a slightly grainy texture. You want to process after 4 hours. Step 8: Unscrew the blade and bottom from the blender and screw onto your REGULAR mouthed mason jar containing all your ingredients. Place the entire Mason jar on the blender and whip until smooth and creamy throughout, about a minute. Consistency will look like mayonnaise. Flip back over, unscrew the blender blade, and attach your mason cover and seal. Step 9: To use add 1 Tablespoon to a load of laundry in any type of machine, conventional, front loader, high capacity and high efficiency (HE), etc. Do not add the detergent to the detergent compartment but directly in with the dirty clothes. The detergent is smooth and creamy with the same look and consistency of mayonnaise. Be sure to label to prevent your husband from making a sandwich with it! I like to add mine with the water before I add clothes. Original recipe said to simply add clothes then start filling with water. You have to put the measuring spoon under the water for the soap to fall off into the washer. So it’s up to you, your preference. I WOULD CAUTION YOU NOT TO USE BAKING SODA OR OXYCLEAN THINKING IT WILL GIVE IT AN ADDED BOOST. WHAT IT WILL DO IS EXPLODE IN THE JAR IN ABOUT 7 TO 10 DAYS. ALSO DO NOT USE DIFFERENT SIZE MASON JARS. SOAP WILL NOT SET UP PROPERLY. Note: I was scared to death the first time I made this. After you do it the first time, you will see it’s very easy to do. Now when I do it I usually make 4 batches which produces (8) 1 quart Mason Jars. I con my husband into grinding the Fels Naptha in the blender ahead of time. He also measures out the other ingredients. He puts the Fels Naptha in Ziplock Bags and labels them. 1 bar in each bag. Then the Borax and Washing soda gets measured and he puts both in a Ziplock bag together. He does this in our garage on the workbench on newspapers just because of the “dust” factor. I can then get the Ziplocks and cook the recipe whenever I’m ready. Cuts the process time down tremendously and he feels like he’s been a big help! Total Expense for 128 loads of Laundry (2 quart jars) $1.76 *I purchased all my ingredients at Winco (a large discount grocery store) Click and join us here---for more every day fun, tips, recipes, weight loss support & motivation.. and learn about Skinny Fiber! facebook/groups/SkinnySuccess
