White House Confirms: Obama Withholding Torture Documents, Cites Executive Privilege To Protect Cheney The Obama White House admitted, for the first time, that it is withholding thousands of documents on the Cheney torture program, and that President Obama is using executive privilege to protect Bush and Cheney. This damning admission came in response to a question about the McClatchy story circulated Thursday, which reported that, for the past five years, the Obama White House has been withholding more than 9,000 top-secret documents sought by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence for its investigation into the Bush-era CIA detention and interrogation program. This is about precedent and the need, institutionally, to protect some of the prerogatives of the executive branch and the office of the Presidency, White House spokesman Jay Carney said yesterday. All of these documents pertain to and come from a previous administration. They have nothing to do with this administration, but these are matters that need to be reviewed in light of long-recognized executive prerogatives and confidentiality interests. Carney went on to describe these as a very small percentage of documents from the 6 million-plus pages that have been provided to the Senate which he claimed would not or should not delay the completion of the committees report. And Carney added the lie, that Obama wants the Intelligence Committee to submit their report on the CIA program, for declassification. But dont hold your breath: It is well known that Obamas buddy-buddy CIA Director John Brennan, who was deeply involved in the CIA torture program, is thoroughly opposed to the release of the report, and Obama himself has repeatedly said he is opposed to any airing of Bushs and Cheneys dirty laundry, declaring in 2009, when some of the Bush-Cheney torture memos were released, that Nothing will be gained by spending our time and energy laying blame for the past. larouchepac/node/30183
