White Roses today for June at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis… A day of off and on rain and drizzle but it let up at noon so I had no problem cutting the roses to length and arranging them in the permanent bronze vase at the head of June’s grave with water and plant food… Since this is now the 2nd week following memorial day, all other flowers in the cemetery were removed…June’s flowers stood in stark contrast to all other bare graves…the cemetery has an arrangement with me…they know that I come every Wednesday to bring fresh roses for June and they know that I will clean up and remove any cuttings and old flowers so that only fresh flowers will ever be on June’s grave…the administrative office has instructed the grounds maintenance people to “hands off” on June’s grave other then their normal grass watering…I always finish up by brushing off any debris, or vegetation that may have gotten onto June’s marker… I have my normal ritual of having prayers following the flower arrangements with follow up visit to the nearby grave of our son David…I also brush off any materials that may have blown onto his marker…the maintenance people had removed his memorial day flowers and stowed the bronze vase into the storage base… As I often see, there was a large tour bus parked outside the memorial chapel at Lakewood…this old chapel is a sight to behold and is on the Register of Historic Places…it is a popular visitors site… As usual I always have a follow up visit to the Holy Spirit Chapel at the Benedictine for prayers among the stained glass window memorials… Last of all I have coffee in the pleasant little lobby outside the Chapel and visit with nursing home staff and any residents that happen to be there… Overall it was a good day…Here is the usual link to June’s story of Lakewood from her website… junebergalzheimers/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=210&Itemid=373
