White-tailed deer are wildlife, not livestock. The Missouri House of Representatives has affirmed the obvious. The captive deer bills were defeated last night by only one vote in the House after passing the Senate. Missouri deer hunters, wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists have so many people to thank, but it begins with Representative Chris Kelly of Columbia. The fight will continue, but today, this is a huge, historic win for the conservation community of Missouri. This fight was about so much more than deer. Hopefully, it will wake up the masses of Missouri citizen conservationists and they will begin engaging in efforts to protect our natural resources that come under attack way too often. This year it was deer. What will it be next year? Thank you to everyone who stood with CFM – the legislators who voted to support conservation, our Affiliate Organizations who worked so hard and signed on to our veto support letter, our members who called and wrote their legislators, the Missouri citizens who engaged and our well-wishing friends from around the country. If your legislator voted with us, PLEASE take a few minutes to personally THANK THEM. This was not an easy vote. They deserve your gratitude. Please let them know you appreciate their commitment to conservation.
