Who Can See In The Spirit? One of the most common ways that God communicates to us is through visions. Visions from God are nothing more than visual images that are seen by our spirit and transmitted to our soul so they can appear in our mind’s eye, or what some would call our imagination. If you try to recall what you ate for breakfast this morning, you might see a brief picture in your mind’s eye of a plate of bacon. When your mind retrieves the image of your breakfast and displays it on the little TV screen in your mind, you are experiencing the same thing God does when He gives you a vision. The apparatus for seeing visions from God is the same apparatus used to display any other visual information in our mind. While some people want to make visions seem mystical, there is less mystery about them than most people think. I believe most people receive visions from God on a regular basis but they’re either not aware that what they’re seeing is from God, or theyre not paying attention at all to what God is showing them. The idea that we can all see in the spirit is opposed by people who teach that seeing in the spirit is only intended for a few people special people. There is a self-serving agenda behind this teaching, though many who hold this view are not aware of the agenda. It’s hard not to see this teaching as a way to create a two-tiered system in which one group of people receives revelation from God that they dispense to the other group in exchange for a fee or recognition. The church seems to have done this to place certain people in places of higher spiritual standing than others. It appears that the New Age community has the same problem. One person has the gift of revelation and they earn their living off people who don’t have the gift. In this two-tiered system, there is no thought given to the ones with the gift training those without it. To do so would remove the advantage that the gifted ones enjoy. The bible teaches that it is the responsibility of new covenant prophets to train and equip other believers for the work of ministry (see Eph. 4:11.) For those who are able to see in the spirit, such as prophets, this training would involve instructing other believers in how to see in the spirit. It’s my belief that those who are born with a fully developed ability to see in the spirit are born that way so that they might help others to need to have their spiritual eyes trained and refocused. While some prophets are generous about teaching others to see in the spirit, many have chosen to keep the seer realm to themselves, preferring to live as spiritual elitists. The irony in this is that we seem to have lost our understanding of what God originally intended with regard to receiving revelation from Him. In the beginning it was God’s desire to communicate with us in person. It was never His desire to speak to us through someone else. The use of prophets to speak to man was God’s compromise because the people of Israel were afraid of communing with Him in person. The New Covenant, if it is to be better than the old one must abolish the old practices that were never God’s desire in the first place and it must replace them with what God originally intended; face to face, spirit to spirit communication between two beings who are in love. The truth is that most people, if they would seek this revelation on their own, would not need to go to “seers” for information about their spiritual circumstances. They could get it directly from God. The major benefit being that their relationship with God would be strengthened. But in our busy culture, it takes time and concentration and a bit of practice to learn how to receive, interpret, and apply spiritual revelation and many people find it more convenient to let others do it for them. The fact that you can receive revelation from God from someone else does not remove your responsibility to learn how to hear God for yourself.
