National Planning Commission signs MoU with African Infrastructure Group on Infrastructure Master Plan Implementation Posted: 3:49 pm, July 11, 2014 by Businesstoday. A memorandum of understanding to facilitate effective implementation of the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIM) has been signed between the National Planning Commission and the African Infrastructure Group on Tuesday July 7, 2014 in Abuja. The Secretary to the National Planning Commission, Ntufam Fidel Ugbo signed the agreement on behalf of the National Planning Commission, whilst the Principal Consult Partner of the African Infrastructure Group Limited, Onuoha Nnnachi signed for the Group. While speaking at the signing ceremony, the Secretary to the Commission, Fidel Ugbo underscored the relevance of the partnership with the private sector, saying it will enable the government to achieve the desired result in the implementation of the infrastructure plan for the nation. He described the private sector as key to the implementation of the NIIMP and the development of the country; arguing that government alone cannot fill the huge infrastructural gap identified and needed in the country. Fidelis Ugbo added that the MoU entered into will attract investors to the nation’s infrastructural development drive and will give them the opportunity to identify areas of interest which will ultimately profit their investment. “Partnering with the private sector will bring investors’ interest to the infrastructure in the country and sell the document. It will also make the private sector know what they can get when they invest,’’ he said. While urging the group to move into action by selling the document to the world, the Commission’s Secretary assured them of the commitment of NPC to the rules of engagement. The Principal Consultant Partner of the African Infrastructure Group, Onuoha Nnnachi in his remarks at the event, said that the NIIMP designed by NPC has already been presented to the private sector and moving to the actualization level, indicating that it was the reason why the Group anchored the partnership with NPC. Onuoha Nnnachi informed that the private sector is bringing funding and mechanism into the development of the infrastructure sector, arguing that the federal government could not fund the programme alone, even when every other programme is halted for that purpose. He disclosed that the group’s summit this year has been designed to focus on the transportation sector to attract deep pocket investors to the required infrastructural development. According to him, the National Planning Commission was mandated by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to coordinate the development of the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP) for a 30-year period. businesstodayng/national-planning-commission-signs-mou-with-african-infrastructure-group-on-infrastructure-master-plan-implementation/
