Who is Karna or Duryodna of your life? (comment and let your friend know that) When an epic is written it has traces of events and occurrences during the time it was given a shape. An epic depicts the life style, culture, customs and traditions of the people lived during that period. The inspiration of the authors from the real life characters drives them to portray such characterizations in their creative work. The real life of the characters portrayed, greatly influences a creator in creating a creation that stands in history. Probably this made Vysaya to create two immortal characters in the greatest epic of all time-Mahabarata. If we compare both these characters there is a difference of sky and earth between them. They literally belong to two different worlds. There is nothing common between them. One is brought up by a charioteer whereas the other is raised as a prince. Throughout his life, one lived a life of humiliation and downfall but the other led a life of kingship. In war’s perspective the former is a great archer while the latter is a brilliant maze builder. The first one is hated even by his close allied but the second one is loved by all his family. Character wise one stands for his generosity and good deeds whereas the other for his non abidance of virtue and values. One is associated with dharma while the other for adharma according to the mythology. Even though they were destined to be different souls, the two central characters, Karna and Duryodana of Mahabarata are considered to be the greatest friends ever lived. If my assumptions are true Karna and Duryodhna definitely existed in real life probably with different names and so did their friendship. And the tradition still continues in this mystical land...
