“Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:18-19). After addressing Israel’s sin Micah revealed the compassionate heart of God. He asked a question that we can easily answer? “Who is like our God?” No one! We have an incomparably great God. The most destructive enemy we have is our own sins and God treads them under His feet. Lest the memory of our sin weighs us down and torments us, He hurls those sins into the depths of the sea. Corrie ten Boom said that He then puts up a sign: “No fishing.” Some people see God as a powerful Avenger and Punisher. He does hate sin and Micah just finished talking about His judgment of Judah. However, Micah makes certain that we don’t arrive at a wrong conclusion about God. God hates sin when He sees it because He is holy. But His nature is love and compassion and He comes to us to forgive us and pardon us. Sin is the result of our greatest failure, but it becomes the occasion for God’s great victory because He comes to us with a heart full of compassion and offers pardon, forgiveness and compassion. No wonder we can answer Micah’s question, “Who is like our God?” There is no one like Him!
