Who knew that a ten minute talk about racial tokenism in the Harry Potter series could draw such a crowd? Seeing the support from my friends, my mentors, my McNair cohort, members of the Honors College, my mentee and countless others during my first ever presentation of research made me feel so amazing. Being a part of the 34th annual Eastern Michigan University Undergraduate Research Symposium was such an incredible experience. I went in feeling so scared and nervous and came out validated in knowing that what I am planning on doing for the rest of my life has value and that I am actually good at it. Words can not express my gratitude for those who have supported me along the way (including those who were not physically here today). This has been a great experience for my first presentation and I expect many more to come in the future. Theres so much more to explore and discover in my discipline and cant wait to see what opportunities come next!
