Who needs Sit-ups? Ever get back pain while you do sit-ups? - TopicsExpress

Who needs Sit-ups? Ever get back pain while you do sit-ups? Especially when you have your feet tied down and your hip flexors become a dominant force-producer, sit-ups put a significant amount of force on your lower back. Even more, it reinforces the hunched over posture we spend too much time in throughout the day, which can have negative effects on our posture, breathing and core strength. Core stability exercises like front and side planks actually activate the core musculature to a greater extent than exercises like crunches, which help “open up” the midsection a bit and teach the core to create stability through the midsection. This will decrease the stress on your back, improve your posture and improve your performance in most lifts.
