Who watched the match last night? After sleeping on it, I have a few post match thoughts: First, I LOVED IT! It moved fast, it was easy to follow and the athletes looked fierce. Secondly, the production was well done. Not at all cheesy. The scoring overall was easy to follow (the colored bars on the clean ladder threw me off). Watching it online you are able to hear a lot of what the coaches and athletes are saying. I think like with other professional sports that will be an experience you can only get when watching online/tv. Thirdly, I feel like there should have been an explanation or review of the format before the match started. For those that havent been following (or obsessing, tomato tomaato), if the NPGL is going to try to bring a wider audience than this has to happen. Explain that there are 11 races, how the points are awarded, challenge flags and bonus flags, etc. I also want to see the good sportsmanship and respect that we all know is there. A good match handshake amongst coaches maybe even players. Lastly, and this one drove me crazy last night, what are the movement standards that the judges are looking for?? I looked all over the NPGL website and couldnt find them. This is another big one in my book. As a spectator, how do I know what Im watching if I dont know what the movements are? How I can I argue against or for my team when a flag has been thrown? How can the NPGL expect the general public to embrace this sport if they dont understand that there are standards? I stand by my original feeling on the NPGL. They have the makings to be a successful professional sport. This was the first match, a starting point and a good, well thought out starting point at that. I look forward to watching the NPGL grow into a sport that families gather and schedule their lives around. I didnt think it was possible to be more stoked to see the Brawlers play live at the Patriot Center, but after last night, I might have to start my own twelve step program. #BRAWLOUT (btw, I have no doubt that this post is riddled with grammar, spelling and punctuation errors. I am not blogger or even an english major. Just a fan, dont judge me. :) )
