Whoever is elected will unfortunately be ill-equipped to alter Iran’s foreign policy in any palpable way. Ayatollah Khamenei, fascist crackpot that he is, will continue to oversee the regimentation of strict Islamic law and will probably halt all efforts by the Iranian youth to import those “immoral Western ideas of secularism” to Iran. The elected candidate will be able to sway some internal policies, but the Iranian power structure is too firmly entrenched to undergo any revolutionary changes in the near future.
