Whose Business Is it? Much of our stress comes from mentally living out of our own business. When we think, “You need to get a job, you need to clean your home, you need to practice yoga, you need to stop smoking, I want you to be happy, you should always be on time, you need to eat healthier and take better care of yourself” we are in their business. When we’re worried about the weather, earthquakes, floods, war, or how and when we will die, we’re in God‟s business. People are living their life, and if we are mentally living their life for them, by thinking what is best for them, who is here living our life? We’re both over there in theirs. Being mentally in other peoples business keeps us from being present in our own. We separate from ourselves, and we’re wondering why our life doesn’t work. “To think that I know what’s best for anyone else is to be out of my business. Even in the name of love, it is pure arrogance, and the result is tension, anxiety, and fear. Do I know what’s right for me?” That is my only business. Let me work with that before I try to solve your problems for you.” Byron Katie If we understand the three kinds of business enough to stay in our own business, it will free our life in a way that we can’t even imagine. The next time we’re feeling stress or discomfort, we ask ourselves whose business are we in mentally, and we may burst out laughing! Just to notice that we’re in someone else’s business, can bring us back to our own wonderful self.
