Why Astrology? Astrology studies the impact that the planets in our solar system have on earthly affairs. All of our known planets orbit around the sun. They will appear at different points in the sky as they make a complete rotation. The closer a planet is to the sun, the faster its’ orbit because the sun’s gravitational pull is stronger. The planets are cycling through the universe and moving through the 12 signs of the zodiac. Astrologers have divided the 360 degrees of the universe into 12 pieces. You might envision this as a spherical pie. Each of the 12 sections represents a “house”. Each house represents one of the 12 signs and governs certain spheres of human life. The planets of our solar system are orbiting through each of the 12 signs and the 12 houses. At the time of your birth, astrologers pinpoint the exact location of all of the planets, including the sun and the moon. This pictorial snapshot becomes your “birth chart.” We then examine the position of the planets – the sign each one is in, the house each one is in and the relationships that the planets form with each other. When reviewing your birth chart, interpretation is done combining the science of astrology, the tried and true definitions of the zodiac signs and exact meaning of planetary relationships and also the astrologer’s ability to make perceptive summations and weave the zodiac clues together into a mosaic that speaks to you. You might say astrology is 50% science and 50% art. Going over your birth chart can uncover facets of your personality that may be lying dormant. An astrological reading can highlight the strengths that you possess and can validate the strengths you already know you have! It can also shed some light on why certain areas of life may be difficult for you. Astrology is a means for self-exploration and self-actualization. Learning about the dominant energies in your chart can help you make more informed decisions as you live your life. It can also facilitate a greater sense of self-acceptance. It is always a great reminder that we were not put on this Earth to be perfect. We were put here to be real. Once you have become familiar with your natal chart, paying attention to the cosmos can become a great asset going forward. You might start following the phases of the moon, the positions of the planets and any major alignments that are forming.
