Why Dixon? My last name is Benckhuysen. Try to spell it with your eyes closed... its difficult. I have put a lot of thought in to choosing how I am going to write my name on the cover of the book. One of the key thing I thought about was memory. Here is how I came up with C.B. Dixon... First, my given name. Seems simple enough to write your first name on the cover and say, Yes, this book is mine, I wrote it. Ive come to learn differently. I researched in to other authors and how they came to write their name on the cover. Most have simple names that really stick out and weld every syllable into your brain. Others abbreviated. Think of the who you know... Stephen King, J.R Tolkin, J.K. Rowling, those three everyone knows, even if theyve never picked up a book before. Now listen to the sound, look at how easy it is to read... Chianne... well that name everyone has a hard time with, if the nurse or secretary got my name right on the first try, I always let them know that they are one of the few. So that takes us to my new last name that my amazing husband gave me. It took me four years to learn it and I dont think I pronounce it properly on occasion. Six years Ive been faced with the wonders of his last name. At first glance I found it intimidating. I went for surgery this year. Blessed with a extremely awesome first and last name. Mark and I wait quietly in the uncomfortable chairs at the hospital. The smiling nurse came in to the waiting room with her clip board. She glanced at the names, Mrs. Ben... um... Mrs. Chi... her smile faded and confusion had set in. I raise my hand knowing all to well she was looking for me. If some one that deals with names daily cant get one of my names right... well that proved to me all my questioning of friends, family, and readers had just come to a stop. I couldnt use either, there was just no way. I used my maiden name. I came up with Chianne Benckhuysen Dixon, and shortened the first two. Both names are there, just simplified to take it easy on my readers and so they can remember.
