Why I Believe in the Rainbow Bridge (with thanks to Chris - TopicsExpress

Why I Believe in the Rainbow Bridge (with thanks to Chris Messick for reminding me) Today, veterinarians and others who witness and provide services after a pets death often send a card including a piece of poetic prose called The Rainbow Bridge (probably written in the 1980s, original author unknown). In the late 1980s, before the piece was widely disseminated - and certainly long before I ever heard of it - our first family pet, a beautiful Sheltie named Rebel, passed away. Now, I have had only two experiences that I firmly believe were visitations (for lack of a better word) from beyond the grave. Both occurred as dreams (but distinct from other dreams in ways I wont describe right now): The first was about two weeks after Rebels passing. The second was almost 20 years ago, from my maternal grandmother. We didnt let Rebel get on sofas with us, and perhaps for that reason he appeared on a sofa, lounging comfortably as can be, looking at me and smiling (some of you know that particular Sheltie smile). The soundtrack? Somewhere Over the Rainbow. For another 20+ years, I always thought the music had been presented to me simply as a nice metaphor playing to my own sentimental and tearful state. That is, until I read the sympathy card following the passing of our second Sheltie, Fido, in 2006 - and read The Rainbow Bridge for the first time.
