Why I do NOT support the passage of 2D, the initiative to Ban Smart Meters. The passage of this initiative would be a huge detriment to our rate payers and the city. This could cost the average rate payer up to a 7% increase in their current electric rates. Approximately 95% of Fountains customers have already transitioned to the smart meters and have not opted out, and this number continues to grow. Many customers who have opted out do their own research and end up requesting to have the meter installed. The proponents of this issue are extremely vocal but represent a tiny portion of the community. One of my opponents in the Mayors race, who is also the author of the ballot intiative has also stated he was OK with the ratepayer paying the extra 7% just as long as he gets what he wants. I firmly believe the council as well as myself acted on the best research and knowledge and in the best interest of the citizens. Please do your research and VOTE NO on 2D.
