Why I won’t allow my Fiolina to enrol at the Mosoriot TTC When - TopicsExpress

Why I won’t allow my Fiolina to enrol at the Mosoriot TTC When my father warned me never to trust any woman, I remember telling him off; and bragging to him that Fiolina was a totally different woman. I wish I had listened. You see, for the last few months, Fiolina has been great to me, and given me all that a man could ask for. The laugh of my life has done everything to ensure that my life is smooth, and this is the reason I have been wearing this permanent smile lately. Last Monday was no exception. In the morning, I left for school after taking a heavy and sumptuous breakfast. Since she closed her nursery school last week, Fiolina had all the time to impress me. Breakfast was tea with amahenjera – if you know what that means. At lunch time she sent over food at school; I was the envy of everyone and colleagues streamed to my desk like vultures. I arrived home that evening to find the same tea and the same amahenjera waiting for me. As I took tea, she was there in the sitting room asking how my day was at school. TRUE INTENTIONS She then prepared another sumptuous supper – ugali with one isindu – and it was only after supper that she revealed her true intentions. Just before I went to sleep she gave me an envelope. It was addressed to her from Mosoriot TTC. It was an admission letter for Fiolina this September. I went through the letter quietly, but spent more time studying the fees structure. I wondered where Fiolina thought the money would come from. She was by then seated next to me, holding me as we read. “When I applied, I wasn’t so sure I could get,” she said, smiling loudly. I did not respond. “I am so happy that after the two years, I will be just like you,” she said. “I am sure people will be so envious of us.” Here was a woman talking about life after college when I did not even know where the fees would come from to begin with. As the most educated person in Mwisho wa Lami and its environs, I support education, particularly of the girl-child, but not of such magnitude. Needless to say, I did not have the kind of money that was being asked for. Not wanting to disappoint her, I asked her to allow me a few days before advising on whether she could start doing her shopping. The next day I decided to seek opinion from my friends. We were with Saphire, Lutta and Kwame at Hitler’s. “What!” wondered Saphire after I briefed them. “Fiolina can’t be the one who applied,” he added. “This must be the work of a man out to snatch your wife from you.” “Did you ever assist her to apply?” Lutta asked. When I told them that I had not assisted Fiolina, they told me clearly that there must have been some man who did that for her. I wasn’t sure about any man helping her to apply but I was sure of one thing: Fiolina could not have applied for college on her own. “Are you sure that you want to let your wife stay with other mafisi for two years?” asked Kwame. “If you let her go there, be prepared to lose her,” said Saphire, who went ahead to give me several examples of such instances. “The moment you let Fiolina go to Mosoriot, just know that she will only be your wife during school holidays.” When I told them that I was sure Fiolina would not do that, they all laughed me. “The only way out is to have three children with her before allowing her to go to school,” Juma said. “But if you let her go like that, please start looking for another wife.” ADVERTISEMENT “Even with three children you can’t trust her with other men,” added Lutta. “If she must go to college, let her join KU where you can monitor her.” “But must she go to college?” asked Kwame. “Si she has a salary, why do you want her to equal you in the house. That nursery salary is enough for her; what does she want more money for?” Kwame also asked me to contact her family and see if they could assist me with paying fees. Luckily for us, Tocla, Fiolina’s brother, passed by Hitler’s. I showed him Fiolina’s admission letter, and he quickly said that they could not help. “Fiolina is your wife,” Tocla said. “Who will eat the salary when she gets the job? It will be you.” “But also be careful,” warned Lutta. “What if the man who helped her apply goes ahead and pays her fees? You will lose her!” I did not even want to imagine that. BAD IDEA After long deliberations, I was convinced that it would be a bad idea to allow Fiolina to go to Mosoriot. The discussions moved to how I would stop her from going to Mosoriot in September. When I got home that evening, I found Fiolina’s friends around. They were conducting thanksgiving prayers, and the admission letter was being passed around for those who could read. “We will miss you in the choir,” said Anindo, Nyayo’s wife. “Fio is lucky to have you,” said Jacinta, the lady who cooks porridge for nursery school pupils. “Not many men will pay for their wives to go to school like Dre here has agreed to do.” Before they left, they said a long prayer in which they asked God to help me not look at other women when Fiolina was away. Once they had left, I had to discuss this with Fiolina. “I have two more semesters at KU,” I said. “Can’t you wait until I am done with college so that I can afford to pay for you?” She refused this completely. Seeing that she was still stubborn, I promised her something that I knew she could not turn down. “I also want you to go to college after our wedding.” You should have seen her face brighten when I mentioned a wedding. “When?” she asked. I told her that this would be done before the next intake. She was so happy with this that she accepted and a few minutes later, she was on her phone talking to her friends and asking them to come and be on her “line” during the wedding. What she did not know is that there was no wedding in plan. She also did not know that even if I had the money, I would not allow her to go to Mosoriot TTC. I can’t let her out there with all those men around there. The only teacher training college I can allow her to enrol at is KU, and during school vacations when I am there to keep a close eye on her. Can anyone confirm if KU offers primary teacher training? Meanwhile, I have to find out who helped Fiolina apply for the course. It better not be a man.
