Why Is Modesty Important To Me As A Woman of God? (Spiritual Modesty) (Part II) In the first post about modesty, I just outlined my feelings on modesty and how disappointed I have become that Christian women don’t regard modesty as highly as they should. This can be seen not only their dress but also in their behavior, attitudes and speech. In this post I want to deal with the spiritual aspect of modesty. So let’s get the ball rolling, what is modesty? Endlessly I searched and searched for a definition that could encompass the aspect of modesty that the Holy Spirit had laid on my heart. I almost gave up on the post, but I decided to give it one more try. In my last effort to work on this topic I stumbled across the Mormon’s definition of what they termed as modesty and it shocked me to see how accurate the definition was to what God had given me. In the book, “True to The Faith,” by the Latter Day Saints it says that, “Modesty is an attitude of humility, decency in dress, grooming, language and behavior. If you are modest, you do not draw undue attention to yourself. Instead, you seek to “glorify God in your body, and in your spirit.”” I could not help but thank God for not allowing me to give up on this topic. Today, when the term modesty is brought up, many Christians tend to focus on the physical aspect of it, but sometimes never mention what is means to be spiritually modest. Spiritual modesty is a characteristic that is comprised of attitude, thought and demeanor. How should we as women of God be thinking? How should we be behaving? In trying to answer these questions my spirit immediately showed me Christ. Women of God we should be thinking and behaving like Jesus Christ. Through much prayer and meditation, the Holy Spirit gave me three areas that we should concentrate on in displaying spiritual modesty as Christians. They are love, humility and good speech. In order to exhibit the spiritual modesty that Christ did when He walked the earth love, humility and good speech should be a part of our daily walk because it says in Matthew 7:20 (KJV) that, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Let’s start with the most important one, love. We hear all the time love is patient; love is kind, and so on and so forth. Many Christians claim to know what love is, but their actions never tend to reflect it. I Corinthians 13:13 says, “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” Love is so important to me as a Christian because if it wasn’t for love, Christ would not have died on the cross for my sins and I would not be where I am today. All of this because of love. Galatians 5: 22-23 (KJV) states, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” I want you to notice how the Bible says fruit and not fruits. For there is only one fruit of the spirit and it is love. When you love you are kind, gentle, meek, temperate, faithful, good, etc. So love encompasses all these other characteristics that the apostle Paul listed. All the days that Christ walked this earth he walked in love. He fed those who were hungry, he healed those who were sick and he was kind to his enemies. Because of this kind of love, He died for you and I and I have not come across any greater love. Remember that you cannot claim to have God and don’t have love, for God is love. I John 4:8 (KJV) declares, “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” If you know God are you displaying love? Are you being his hand extended?
