Why Islam instructs Hijab? It is not only because of beauty that a woman has to cover herself. Even a woman who is dark, fat and not beautiful is also supposed to cover herself. Even a woman who is above fifty has to cover herself. A woman is precious, her modesty is precious. So we have to protect her. Do we display our dollars of salary waving in public while returning from offices? The reason for covering the women is given in Surah Ahzab.. ‘so that she may not be harmed.’ It is not only a physical harm that comes from eve teasing or stalking but also psychological molestation that the Qur’an is saving the women from. The fear of growing fat and weight conscious is one of the epidemics among the women who love in displaying their beauty. They have to appear beautiful. A huge amount of their income is spent in cosmetics. They undergo starvation thinking that they are dieting. A receptionist or a sales girl or a female executive and even a sports girl have to be good looking to earn fame and wealth. If a beautiful girl is participating in sports, movies, or news, the crowd will flock. These women are exploited by the lustful eyes of the viewers. Islam will not tolerate a woman to be exploited in the name of beauty. Hijab is not a cage but a castle and there is a difference between the two. A cage has a limited freedom to move around. A castle is a huge place that offers protection and free space to move around. A woman in hijab can educate her self while being protected from heart breaking affairs, stalkers etc. She is not a slave but a Queen of the house. She rules over her husband’s income. A sales girl, and a receptionist are working to make their bosses richer by attracting costumers through their pleasing looks and manners. But a Hijabi attracts the lord of the universe.
